March 29th

Hi guys!

I realize that Friday is Good Friday, however, we typically don't celebrate Good Friday until the evening, so we are still planning to meet, though I definitely understand if you won't be able to make it because you want to keep that day sacred.

I have posted this last year, but if you are unfamiliar with Good Friday, this whiteboard illustration gives a short explanation as to why many Christians call the Friday before Easter--or Resurrection Sunday as we call it in our home--Good Friday: Video

Also, in addition to studying the passages about Christ's death and Resurrection in the Bible, it is a tradition for me to read "The Tale of the Three Trees" to my children every Easter...and cry every single time (literally, EVERY time...my kids will tell you). The illustrated book I have is just beautiful.  (They also made it into a cartoon, for those who want to share it with your children that way: The Tale of the Three Trees Video)

On to farm news...

Last week we were blessed with a surprise new arrival that some of you may have already noticed, but I forgot to mention.   Meet Weasel the Duck:

Weasel is an Indian Runner duckling. As far as we could tell, she was the only duckling in her nest, so we intend to get a few little friends for her. In the meantime, she's doing well in the brooder all by herself. If you want to take a peek at her on your way to the restroom, you are welcome to do so. Just make sure you do not tap on the glass and stress her out!

And now on to this week's schedule!

(Please Note: If your child will be doing a lot of running around and is easily over-heated, please make sure to bring lots of water. The tap water in the shop kitchen is drinkable, but we will not be providing bottled water or cups)

From 10-Noon(ish) we will break into group activities:

Group A-- Ages 5-8

You will be doing Gardening this week. Ms. Paula will be teaching you a fun activity out of her Jr. Gardiner curriculum, so you should learn a lot! Come prepared to get dirty and make things grow!!

Parents, if your little ones tend to wander, please stay close by. You are responsible for taking your child to the restroom or providing them with water if they get thirsty. Try to remind them that this is a group activity, and they should try to stick with their group as much as possible. That will really help keep things flowing smoothly for everyone. <3

Materials Needed:

Sunscreen and Water Bottles...if you so desire.

Clothes/shoes that you don't mind getting dirty.

Garden gloves if you think you need them.

Group B--Ages 9-12

You will be doing the Project this week. Since it is Good Friday and we are a Christian family, I am making it my prerogative to do a Good Friday craft...because I can.  I don't normally like to do crafts for Projects (because who needs more stuff around the house), but I really liked the one I found when I was looking for good ways to celebrate Resurrection Sunday and thought Group B would be the perfect age for doing this.  There will be paint involved, so don't wear your best clothes!

Materials Needed:

Sunscreen and Water Bottles...if you so desire.

Clothes/shoes that you don't mind getting dirty and/or wet.

A great attitude!

Group C--Ages 13-18

You will be doing P.E. this week.  Not sure what you all will be doing yet--depends how many teens we get!  Come prepared to have fun!

Materials Needed:

Sunscreen and Water Bottles...if you so desire.

And clothes/shoes that you don't mind getting dirty.

Those teenagers that do not feel like participating in P.E. are welcome to volunteer with Group A. Please note, you WILL be put to work if you volunteer in that capacity!

Picnic Lunch

Everyone is welcome to stay and have a picnic lunch in the backyard area. You are responsible for bringing your own lunch. Please do not feed any animals with that lunch and please make sure all garbage is disposed of in the dumpster or garbage can.
