March 13th

Hi All!

My daughter's surgery went very well last Friday. Thank you for your prayers! She is healing so well that we will go ahead and have co-op on Friday.

Not too much new on the farm. Found some new baby ducklings waddling around the pasture... but nothing unusual there 🤪.

Our biggest news is Kevin.

Kevin (our male emu) has been sitting on a nest for a month. He usually sits on garbage this time of year, so we didn't think much about it. We irrigated a couple weeks ago, so my husband thought he should doublecheck to make sure there weren't eggs. There were.

Lots of them.

Which means we had a decision to make. Do we berm around him (LOTS of work-- several wheelbarrows full of dirt we would have to hand shovel), remove the eggs into our incubator, or let him continue to set on them in the water. Considering the last time we tried to incubate emu eggs, nothing happened, and considering that hink Kevin will protect his eggs. So... 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️.

They take 56 days to hatch and he's been sitting on them for a month already. So if no baby emus by my daughter's wedding (April 16th), he will be kicked off his nest and the eggs will be removed.

But...just maybe we will have baby emus in a few weeks!

Schedule for Friday, March 13, 2026

From 10-Noon(ish) we will break into group activities:

Group A-- Ages 5-8

You will be doing P.E. this week. We will either have Mr. Asher again, or Miss. Ariana.

Parents, if your little ones tend to wander, please stay close by. You are responsible for taking your child to the restroom or providing them with water if they get thirsty. Try to remind them that this is a group activity, and they should try to stick with their group as much as possible. That will really help keep things flowing smoothly for everyone.

Materials Needed:

Sunscreen if you so desire.

Water Bottles. (Though the water in the shop kitchen is drinkable, we do not have enough cups to provide water for all of the thirsty kiddos that come to the farm.)

Clothes/shoes that you don't mind getting dirty.

Athletic shoes with socks would be a good idea this week.

Group B--Ages 9-12

You will be doing Project this week.

Materials Needed:

Sunscreen and Water Bottles...if you so desire.

A willingness to learn

Group C--Ages 13-18

You will be doing Gardening this week.

Materials Needed:

Sunscreen and Water Bottles...if you so desire.

Gardening gloves if you think you want them.

Clothes/shoes that you don't mind getting dirty and/or wet.

A great attitude!

Those teenagers that do not feel like participating in the Project are welcome to volunteer with Group A. Please note, you WILL be put to work if you volunteer in that capacity!

Picnic Lunch

Everyone is welcome to stay and have a picnic lunch in the backyard area. You are responsible for bringing your own lunch. Please do not feed any animals with that lunch and please make sure all garbage is disposed of in the dumpster or garbage can.

Mark your calendars. There will be NO co-op these days:

April 3rd (Good Friday)

April 17th (My daughter is getting married!!!)

I apologize in advance for taking so many days off, but it really couldn't be helped. We are taking off for all good things though!  Hopefully we won't miss any additional weeks due to weather/illness!
