So...in order to have all that green grass (that will FINALLY be mowed next week!) and all those trees, we need to irrigate. Periodically, irrigation will happen on a Friday...and this Friday will be our lucky day (sorry...I can't control it). We are still planning to have Homeschool Days, however, our pasture, our front yard, and our backyard will be flooded. Yay. We will be able to work around it (Gardening isn't affected, PE can be in the arena, and the Project can happen in the driveway). I'm sure the bigger kids won't have an issue with not getting wet, but those with younger kids might want to plan to overcome that temptation to wade in the water. I really don't care if your kids get wet or not (you're the one who has to drive them home!), just know that the irrigation travels through our entire pasture before reaching our backyard--the water is NOT clean and definitely not drinkable! My kids play in it, but then again, they are farm kids and routinely shovel manure...
And now...on to the Agenda!
First, if you want to know more about what we are doing, please click on the link to the page entitled: "What is Homeschool Days?"
Also, if you have not yet read our farm Code of Conduct, please do so before coming. You will also need to sign a one-time Waiver (because that's just the world we live in). A copy of the Code of Conduct as well as the Waiver will be on site for those who need it.
From 10-Noon(ish) we will break into group activities:
Group A-- Ages 5-8
You will be working on Mentos Rockets this week! (My Conan has been waiting very impatiently for this one...) Since we have irrigation, we will also HAVE to make baking soda and vinegar boats. This should be good fun for the kids (hopefully we get as flooded as we are supposed to this week...we've been low lately :-/ )
Materials Needed:
1 package of Mentos
1 2-liter bottle of soda (diet works best)
Vinegar and Baking Soda (we can share this across families if you want to coordinate with friends, but I won't have enough for everyone...) Each boat takes a cup of vinegar and a 1/2 cup of baking soda.
Group B-- Ages 9-12
You will be participating in PE this week. Please wear tennis shoes and clothes you can move in. The game we play will depend on how many kids show up :-). Just know this will most likely take place in the arena, so be prepared to get dusty.
Materials Needed:
None
Group C-- Ages 13-18
You will be doing Gardening this week. You will hopefully be making some flower bombs for our wildflower garden as well as a few to take home. Please be prepared to get dirty. If you want to wear gardening gloves, please bring your own. Ms. Paula will also be discussing your on-going teen project. If there is time, you will be journaling about the garden. You will have a choice of either writing about the garden or making a sketch/drawing.
Materials Needed:
Journal or a Sketch Pad (or both)
We will have some crayons/markers, but you should bring your own pen/pencil also.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Movement Therapy/Stretching with Paula
After the group activities, Paula will host a Movement Therapy/Stretching class in the basketball court area.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Picnic Lunch
Everyone is welcome to stay and have a picnic lunch in the backyard area (we'll move the picnic tables into the driveway ;-) ). You are responsible for bringing your own lunch. Please do not feed any animals with that lunch and please make sure all garbage is disposed of in the dumpster or garbage can.
