April 19th

Hi All!

I hope everyone is enjoying this week!  The weather is starting to heat up and people keep asking me when we'll finish for the year. Well, I haven't officially decided!  It kind of depends on the weather and how much interest there is to continue.  Right now, I am thinking May 3rd will be our official end date for summer break (because you all always tell me you get hot!), but we might go longer if the weather keeps staying this beautiful!  I might also consider just having Friday Free days for the summer for those who REALLY like the outdoors. But we'll see what you guys all want to do.  Feel free to let me know your thoughts when you come on Friday. Maybe I'll do an official survey...

And now on to this week's schedule!

(Please Note: If your child will be doing a lot of running around and is easily over-heated, please make sure to bring lots of water. The tap water in the shop kitchen is drinkable, but we will not be providing bottled water or cups)

From 10-Noon(ish) we will break into group activities:

Group A-- Ages 5-8

You will be doing Gardening this week. Ms. Paula will be teaching you a fun activity out of her Jr. Gardiner curriculum, so you should learn a lot! Come prepared to get dirty and make things grow!!

Parents, if your little ones tend to wander, please stay close by. You are responsible for taking your child to the restroom or providing them with water if they get thirsty. Try to remind them that this is a group activity, and they should try to stick with their group as much as possible. That will really help keep things flowing smoothly for everyone. <3

Materials Needed:

Sunscreen and Water Bottles...if you so desire.

Clothes/shoes that you don't mind getting dirty.

Garden gloves if you think you need them.

Group B--Ages 9-12

You will be doing the Project this week. I actually have materials you can bring this week, if you so desire, so check the materials list below... (if you don't check this until Friday morning, don't worry, we'll still do the project, we'll just have to share ;-) ).  Since it is warming up this week, we are going to attempt to make a solar oven. Well, solar ovenS (see the material list). If all goes according to plan, you guys will get to make some s'mores. And while we wait for that, we will be playing with fire...okay, I will be playing with fire--you get to watch. But hopefully you will enjoy the show! (Parents: We will NOT be making enough S'mores for kids outside of Group B, so if you have other children that might be jealous, bring a separate snack for them)

Materials Needed:

Sunscreen and Water Bottles...if you so desire.

Clothes/shoes that you don't mind getting dirty and/or wet.

A small box--preferably a pizza box. A shoe box could work also.

Aluminum foil

A great attitude!

Group C--Ages 13-18

You will be doing P.E. this week.  Not sure what you all will be doing yet--depends how many teens we get!  Come prepared to have fun!

Materials Needed:

Sunscreen and Water Bottles...if you so desire.

And clothes/shoes that you don't mind getting dirty.

Those teenagers that do not feel like participating in P.E. are welcome to volunteer with Group A. Please note, you WILL be put to work if you volunteer in that capacity!

Picnic Lunch

Everyone is welcome to stay and have a picnic lunch in the backyard area. You are responsible for bringing your own lunch. Please do not feed any animals with that lunch and please make sure all garbage is disposed of in the dumpster or garbage can.
